£4,650.00
Stunning original Gibson SG/LP Custom Reissue from 2006 in a wonderful VOS aged White Nitrocellulose finish. Part of the Gibson Custom Historic range, 2006 was the first year that the new proprietary VOS (Vintage Original Spec) finish was offered. Available with or without the Maestro Vibrola we have the stop tail version here for supreme tuning stability. The 1961 Les Paul / SG Custom Reissue was produced between 2000 and 2012 with less than 1000 instruments produced per year making these early reissues quite a rare guitar indeed.
Featuring a one-piece Solid Honduran Mahogany body with Historic deep bevelling and tapered horn tips mated to a one-piece quarter sawn Honduran Mahogany neck with a 1960 slim taper C profile. The Ebony fretboard has inlayed Mother of Pearl blocks. Likewise the multi-ply bound headstock has a Mother of Pearl Gibson logo and Custom specific Mother of Pearl split diamond inlay. Electronics comprise a trio of Gibson Burstbucker Humbuckers wired to a 3-way switch with 2 Vol, and 2 Tone controls. Being a VOS instrument the guitar features lightly aged hardware with the Gold plated pickup covers, ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge and light weight Aluminum stopbar tailpiece all showing this patination. The tuners are reissue Kluson deluxe with plastic Keystone buttons. Plastics comprise of a wide bevel, 3-ply ‘Angel Wing’ pickguard, a 2-ply, wide bevel angled truss rod cover and white 3-ply tenon cover both with "Les Paul Custom" engraving. Knobs are the correct early sixties style black/gold reflector knobs with pointers and the switch tip is aged white.
The guitar is in fantastic condition throughout, there are the usual signs of light use and the light patination that comes as standard from the VOS process. There is some light fret wear and one tiny, barely noticeable pin-head ding to the lower forearm bevel. Otherwise the guitar is in superb condition for a 15 year+ instrument. The neck is a very comfortable Slim C, nowhere near as thin as the original historic models can be and a profile that most players will find comfortable. The trio of Gibson Burstbucker pickups work well with the thin bodied all Mahogany Custom and suit the guitars different control scheme. Measuring 7.55, 4.19 and 8.25 from the output jack in the neck, middle and bridge positions respectively with the middle being wired out-of-phase with the bridge pickup. It sounds great in all settings with the out-of-phase middle setting particularly musical.
All in all a superb, very playable example of one of Gibson Customs rarer solid body offerings. Weighing a very reasonable 7.1 lbs, the guitar balances well on a strap with none of the neck dive that can plague some SG’s. The guitar comes with its original Gibson Custom case and certificate.
