Superbly preserved, late-sixties Epiphone Frontier and the perfect bookend to the wonderful Gibson made Epiphone acoustics of the 1960’s. Recently popularised by Country Music Star Chris Stapleton and Reissued as an American made Frontier as well as the more affordable Masterbilt Frontier. Recently out of a collection the guitar was sold by us 20 years ago and is good now as it was then.

The FT-110 has a long and storied history with Epiphone with the model name first being used in the early 1940’s before being updated in 1958 after Gibson’s acquisition of Epiphone in 1957. The Gibson made FT110 Frontier specs are 16-1/4” wide with a 25-1/2scale. A square-shoulder dreadnought shape, maple back and sides with a Sitka Spruce top, bound fingerboard, slotted block fingerboard inlays, and gold plated parts. Offered in natural or a sunburst finish with the cowboy themed ‘rope and cactus’ pickguard.

This Frontier dates to 1969 and features a Sitka Spruce top with Maple Back and sides, Mahogany body with a bound Indian Rosewood fingerboard. The Headstock is the iconic longer style introduced in 1963. The original finish is in fantastic condition throughout with minimal checking to the strong Sunburst finish. Appointments include the large ‘Rope and Cactus’ pickguard, Gold plated Kluson Tuners, Slotted block inlays and a bound top and back. Being a ’69 this one features a belly below Adjustable bridge and interestingly a the back has no center seam, a feature often seen in 68/69.

This one has the typical later 60s nut width but doesn’t feel at all cramped unlike other examples can. The neck has a decent rounded profile and the guitar plays well with the sound that square shoulder Gibsons are known for. A great accompaniment guitar it strums well with a balanced ring, bass that is present but not booming and a top-end that is detailed but not dominant.

The guitar comes with an original 60s Era Black Chipboard Case with Red Interior.
