Description

1953 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop – A fantastic, player grade example with lots of vintage character, weighing in at just 8.2lbs.

This is an exceptional player-grade example, offering incredible vintage tones at a more accessible price point due to some modifications. At a lightweight 8.2 lbs (3.72 kg) it’s a resonant, lively and comfortable guitar that sounds superb.

Key to its tonal magic in part is the combination of a lightweight, resonant Honduras Mahogany body and single piece neck, Maple top and an incredible pair of rewound P-90 pickups which sound phenomenal. The neck pickup measures 19k, while the bridge pickup reads 16.75k and they deliver rich, articulate highs and warm, resonant lows with a fairly hefty but balanced output. The pickup cavities have been fitted with brass pickup mounting plates and added springs ensuring precise height adjustment for optimal tonal balance and versatility.

The neck profile on this Goldtop is very comfortable, with a great feel. The nut measures 42.97mm with a neck depth of 23.55mm at the 1st fret and 25.63mm at the 12th fret, providing a smooth, familiar feel that’s easy to navigate. The original no-line, PAT APPLD Kluson tuners are still intact, and function well.

This guitar has previously been converted to 1956 spec (ABR/Stoptail.) As such it has filled stoptail holes, and the guitar has undergone areas of refinishing, most notably to the centre of the top. Blacklight inspection highlights this well-executed work, which leaves much of the original gold finish on the perimeter intact retaining some vibey areas of play wear and lacquer checking. The entire guitar was then given a clear coat.

Additionally, there are filled holes from a previously installed jackplate but despite these changes, the guitar remains a stunning example of a vintage Les Paul Goldtop, with excellent playability, resonance and light weight with plenty of vintage mojo. Priced well given the changes, it's ideal for players seeking an authentic vintage instrument without the higher price tag of a fully original specimen.

Comes with a non-original hardshell case.
