Description
Here we have something a little different in the form of a Slash ‘Jessica” Replica Les Paul Standard. This 1987 Les Paul Standard has received the same makeover as the Guns N’ Roses guitarists own 1987 Les Paul Standard, one of the two factory seconds with three-piece tops Gibson sent Slash after he retired his original Les Paul from the road. The guitar has become a firm favourite and has seen extensive use on the road from the early Appetite for Destruction and Use Your Illusion tours through the Velvet Revolver years and onto the recent Guns N’Roses tours where it is often used for the bands earlier material.

As part of the ‘Jessica’ makeover treatment and just like the original it has been re-finished to a more vintage Honeyburst. Already a fan of original 50’s Bursts Slash had the original vibrant Gibson factory Cherry Sunburst finish removed for a more vintage appropriate finish replicated perfectly here minus the 35 years on the road. The serial number dates the guitar to less than 6 month after Slash own guitar. As part of the Vintage makeover the truss rod cover has been replaced with a blank reproduction and the pickups have been swapped for a set of excellent sounding Seymour Duncan Slash Alnico II pickups. The knobs also have been swapped out for a set of 50’s appropriate gold bonnet knobs. It’s worth mentioning that all the original guitars parts have been retained and the remaining hardware and parts are original factory Gibson.

The guitar certainly looks the part and plugged into a crunchy Marshall amp it certainly sounds it too. The Seymour Duncan Slash Alnico II pickups reproduce the Slash tone remarkably well with the familiar crunch and soaring lead tones easy to replicate. The pickups measure 7.58K in the neck and 8.23K in the bridge. The Mid-to-late Eighties saw Gibson starting to redress many of the changes implemented under Norlins stewardship with the guitar returning to a more traditional, historically focused design and construction methods and as such guitars from this sleeper-era are getting more sought after and harder to come by. The neck has a more familiar feel with a 43.66mm nut width with a depth at the first fret of 21.06mm tapering to 24.33. The guitar weighs in at 9.9lbs and feels solid in use.

The guitar comes complete with its original Gibson Protector case and Red Monkey Slasher Strap.
