1965 Gibson ES-175DN, Natural
Stunning 1965 Gibson ES-175DN in rare, natural finish. This is one of approximately 57 Natural finish 175's shipped in 1965.
Electronics wise the guitar retains its original Pat Sticker humbucking pickups, which deliver the warm, articulate tone these models are celebrated for. The wiring is entirely stock, the pots housed in their original cans and the guitar’s circuitry all preserved.
The single-piece Mahogany neck has had its finish stripped giving the neck a smooth, comfortable feel. The nut has been replaced but the guitar retains its original frets and currently plays very well.. The nut width is 42.1mm, and the neck depth is 19.87mm at the first fret and 22.72mm at the twelfth fret. Overall it has a fairly slim C profile that’s fast and comfortable in the hand.
The guitar has 5 original Kluson double line/double ring tuners and an earlier single line version on the top E string. Other original parts and appointments include the wide bevel pickguard, chrome zigzag tailpiece, crown headstock inlay, orange "Union Made" label and gold reflector knobs.
While this guitar is in excellent condition overall, there are a couple of minor cosmetic imperfections, namely a small crack near the input jack and a filled strap button hole on the upper bout.
A highly coveted instrument with a timeless design, the 175 has become a favourite among jazz, blues, and rock musicians alike. All in all this is an excellent, rare and desirable example complete with earlier brown Lifton case.
