Charming Gibson LG-0 from 1958, the first year of production for this new model in the LG range.

Ladder braced with a Mahogany top, back and sides, Mahogany neck with a Rosewood fingerboard and bridge. The LG-0 was initially aimed at the student market and proved to be very popular, so much so that it prompted Gibson to change the design of the bridge in 1962 to a plastic bridge replacing the original Rosewood version. Finished in a thin satin nitrocellulose, earlier examples such as this have a darker appearance to those from the 60’s. Introduction specs include the aforementioned ladder braced Mahogany top, mahogany back and sides, single piece mahogany neck with a rosewood fingerboard and bridge, screw-on black pickguard, tortoise binding to the top and back, 3 on a strip Kluson tuners, dot inlays to the fingerboard and rectangle Rosewood bridge. List price for the LG-0 in 1960 was $75.00

This wonderful example is in excellent condition, the thin satin finish of these guitars is prone to marking very easily. The guitar shows the natural patination of age with the odd mark and bruise but nothing to detract from the overall look. The neck has a wonderfully played in feel, it has the quintessential ’58 Gibson neck, a large comfortably rounded C profile. The frets are in great shape with some wear to the first position but plenty of life left. The action is 5/32” at the 12th fret and the guitar plays well. Thanks to the ladder bracing the guitar responds well to fingerstyle playing with the all mahogany construction giving the guitar a crisp and dry sound with excellent bass, rounded trebles and a woody bark when pushed.

The guitar comes with a period Rushworth and Draper’s hard shell case, notable as being at one point Europe's largest music house as well as the shop Paul McCartney bought his first guitar. The case is in fair condition, we would recommend using a different case for anything other than storing the instrument.
