1967 Fender Mustang Bass, White

£3,995.00
Superb Fender Mustang Bass in Olympic White with Ruby Red Tortoise guard. The bass is in great condition with lots of honest play wear. Just in from the son of the original owner, it has all the vibe and patination of a working instrument, feels great to play and looks just right. Dating to 1967 the bass has a late 66 neck date and pot codes with early 67 pickup dates.
Released in 1966 the Mustang Bass was the short-scale alternative to Fenders long-scale classic bass designs and the 4 string sibling to the very popular Mustang guitar. Designed by Leo Fender it was one of the first new instruments of the CBS era at Fender. Initially, like the Mustang guitar it was released in only three colours. Red, White and Blue before in 1969 the options were expanded with the additional Competition finishes. The Mustang Bass was joined by the student model Musicmaster Bass in 1970 and remained in the Catalog until 1981.
The Mustang Bass has a 30” scale length and features a contour free ‘slab’ Alder body with a maple neck a veneerer rosewood fingerboard with 19 frets. A split single-coil pickup similar to the Precision Bass and intuitive Volume and Tone Controls. The finish is original to the body and neck, both show genuine signs of use but not mistreatment. The neck has a dark rosewood fingerboard that shows some pleasant figuring. The original frets show slight wear but play well. The Nov 66 B date stamp is in the pre-CBS style. Tuners are the original chrome ‘lollypop’ or ‘paddle’ variety that Fender used from ’66. The Ruby Red Tortoise pickguard is in excellent condition a with no warping or shrinkage. Electronically everything looks goof under the pickguard with the proprietary Mustang pickup dating to early ’67, there are 2 Stackpole Potentiometers with a source code of 304 66 32, a Switchcraft input and cloth wire throughout.
The Mustang Bass is quite the renaissance instrument having gone from student model obscurity in the late 70’s to being subsequently reissued by Fender Japan in 1998 with 7 different models currently available from Fender and Squier. The neck measures 21.8mm at the 1st fret with a nut width of 41.2. the bass weighs a compact 7.8lbs and comes with a non original case in fair condition.
