1969 Gibson Les Paul Custom in black. Really cool single-piece body / 3-piece neck example that has the perfect amount of wear. An excellent player with a neck profile that fits like a glove, and two fantastic sounding Pat No. humbuckers.

Along with the desirable single piece body, this guitar has no volute, no Made in USA stamp, a transitional tenon and all original hardware. The pots are CTS made, 3 of which date to 29th week of '69, (one vol pot code is under solder), and it retains its original Sprague black beauty caps. It has its original 'waffle back' tuners. The neck has been refinished and there's also a patch of localised refinishing to the side of the body, but the rest of the guitar blacklights well with no evidence of repair. Overall it has a lot of character with just the right amount of lacquer checking and wear.

It weighs in at 9.4 lbs / 4.27 kg and plays incredibly well aided by a previous refret and changed nut. The neck profile is a medium C towards the nut which gets fuller up the neck, becoming quite reminiscent of a '59 profile. Unplugged it is snappy, resonant and vibey. Plugged in the PAT sticker humbuckers are airy and retain an excellent bite and attack while offering the sustain and richness they're known for.

Overall an excellent instrument and a very nice example of the increasingly rare early spec Custom. Complete with later protector/'chainsaw' hard shell case.
