Description

The Epiphone Crestwood Custom was introduced in 1958, marking one of Epiphone's first solid-body electric guitars after the company was acquired by Gibson in 1957. Initially designed as a high-end model, the Crestwood Custom was Epiphone’s answer to Gibson's Les Paul, but with its own distinct features, including a double-cutaway body shape similar to the SG, dual pickups, and a slim, fast-playing neck.

In 1961, the Crestwood Custom underwent a significant redesign, adopting a slimmer body with beveled edges, as well as an Epiphone-branded tremolo system. The guitar became known for its sleek looks and excellent playability, attracting rock and blues players such as Wayne Kramer, Johnny Winter and Jimi Hendrix early in his career. Despite its quality and distinctive features, the Crestwood Custom remained somewhat under the radar compared to Gibson's models, making it a rare and highly collectible piece today. Production of the Crestwood continued until the late 1960s, cementing its place as a classic in Epiphone's vintage lineup.

This 1961 Epiphone Crestwood Custom in its original, vibrant Cherry finish is a rare and vibey piece of vintage Epiphone history. As one of Epiphone's premier solid-body models of the early '60s, this Crestwood Custom has loads of character, plays incredibly well and is in excellent condition for its age.

The guitar features a slim C neck profile with a full nut width, providing a comfortable yet fast feel. The guitar has been 'hardtailed' and the original tremolo cleverly locked in place giving the guitar an improved break angle over the bridge and significantly enhanced tuning stability (a known issue with this model in its original form) and resonance. This modification maintains the original aesthetic while providing a far more reliable and player-friendly setup. Aside from a small, stable crack by the heel join (as you can see in the photos) there are no breaks or repairs. The pickguard has been changed, there are a couple of small additional holes on the top by the tremolo, but all wiring is stock and the guitar sounds incredible.

This Crestwood Custom offers a perfect blend of vintage vibe, rarity, and practical upgrades, making it an excellent choice for collectors and players alike. With its unique history and stunning looks, this Epiphone is a true gem from the golden era of guitar making.
