Immaculate Lowden, Pierre Bensusan "The Old Lady" guitar from 2014. The “Old Lady” is the second Lowden signature guitar for the legendary French Algerian guitarist. Released in 2014 as it marked 40 years of guitar building for George as well as 40 years as a recording Artist for Pierre. Based upon the original Model O that George built for Pierre in 1978, the 2014 “Old Lady” was the same guitar minus the many years of performing and practice that Pierre gave it.
Featuring Ancient Cuban Mahogany back & sides with a Red Cedar top. The body has a soft cutaway mirroring that of the original. The neck is a 5 piece laminated neck of Maple & Mahogany with an Ebony fingerboard. Appointments include a Rosewood headstock faceplate with Mother of Pearl Lowden logo, Maple & Ebony neck binding and figured Maple body bindings and Walnut, Rosewood & Maple purflings form the soundhole Rosette. The pinless bridge is Bocote with a split saddle. Fitted with a Tortoiseshell coloured pickguard and finished with a set of Schaller M-6 gold tuning machines with Ebony buttons.
The guitars in fantastic condition throughout and plays superbly. Featuring the Lowden 45/60mm fingerstyle, low profile carve, the neck has a slim depth with a nut width and string spacing that gives a little more accessibility for finger style playing. Pierre Bensusan is an undisputed master of the DADGAD tuning and as such this guitar responds perfectly in this tuning but the "The Old Lady" or Model S (as this body style was originally designated) will move between standard tuning, DADGAD, and even CGDGCD easily. With its organic Satin finish the Pierre Bensusan "Old Lady" feels tactile and inviting. Sonically it has the classic Lowden tone-rich, woody, punchy, slightly upfront yet responsive to a light touch with lots of headroom.
