1973 Fender Telecaster Custom
Superb sounding and lightweight Walnut Fender Telecaster Custom from 1973 in great overall condition, introduced mid-1972 these guitars were a complete redesign and replacement for the sixties bound body Telecasters.
A standard Telecaster bridge pickup combined with a Seth Lover designed Wide Range Pickup in the neck position, 3-way selector and individual volume and tone controls for each pickup. The neck joins via the new 3-bolt w/micro-tilt method and the styling changes dramatically, the pickguard was elongated incorporating the pickup selector and the volume and tone controls and the finishes offered were more muted in line with the seventies vogue for earthy colours and stripped natural guitars. The bright automotive inspired colours of the 50’s and 60’s were out and the Telecaster Custom was offered in Black, White, Natural and Walnut alongside the standard Sunburst and Blonde finishes.
This example is lightweight at 7.6 lbs and in good overall cosmetic condition, it retains it’s original pickups (very important with Telecaster Customs as the humbucker cannot be reproduced today and is a massive part of the sound), the pots all date ’72 and ’73. The neck has been refretted and the new frets have loads of life, replacement nut and bridge saddles but the originals are in the case.
The instrument comes with it’s original hardshell case and tags, and candy including owner’s manual, period strap and polish cloth.
